The Blue Marlin is a species of marlin endemic to the Atlantic Ocean. It is one of the open ocean's fastest, strongest predators and among the most desired by game fishes. They are able to swim near to the surface of the water, or to dive to the extreme depths while it seeks food.
Known for its long nose, Blue Marlin utilise this feature to stun their prey by slashing their heads in a side-to-side movement, knocking possible prey unconscious, and making it simpler to capture.
Reaching weights of up to 820 kg and lengths of more than 16 feet, the Blue Marlin is one of the largest species of bony fishes. Due to the fact that Blue Marlins undergo such an incredible transformation in size (from being almost microscopic to being among the largest open ocean predators), they eat a wide range of prey throughout their lifetimes.
The size of their predators also increases as they grow, and adult Blue Marlin are not consumed by anything other than large open ocean sharks.
The coin has been produced in Blue Titanium to mimic their cobalt-blue body colour.
