King Canute the Great 1000 Anniversary

Canute was crowned king of England in 1017 and since he was a Viking king, ruler of Denmark, he had the ability to protect England from the terrible Viking raids it had suffered for 100 years. As a Christian king, and as part of his self-promotion as a serene 'English' king, he made many generous gifting to the church. By bringing 20 years of peace and permitting trade and art to thrive he led the way for the country of England we know today.
