This collection that celebrates the wonderful world of Miss Potter continues after to the very popular coin showcasing Peter Rabbit. This time around, The Royal Mint has picked one of the naughtiest of Beatrix’s characters, Squirrel Nutkin. The defects of Beatrix Potter’s characters might get them into trouble, yet also make them so fascinating, and Squirrel Nutkin is just one of her most ill-mannered. Many will have developed a soft spot for the saucy little squirrel when discovering the story of exactly how he came to shed half his tail.
Now, the spirited character is depicted for the very first time on an official United Kingdom coin. Struck in admirable silver to Proof specification (and also BUNC), Royal Mint engraver Emma Noble’s design incorporates colour printed components, reflecting the watercolour design of the original illustrations. The coin comes with a pamphlet influenced by Beatrix’s own work as well as is provided in a contemporary Perspex presentation case.
