Christmas Pantomimes by Christopher Biggins

To celebrate the joyful season, Isle of Male Post has released an exciting and vibrant set of six Christmas stamps to enjoy. The lively designs pay homage to one of the fantastic Christmas customs– pantomime– remembering a few of the well-known programs which have pleased audiences young and old throughout the generations, from tiny town halls to wonderful theatres.
Throughout the British Isles each winter season, expert and amateur performers appear on stage to keep the panto tradition alive. It has become as much a part of Christmas as the tree and turkey, and is embraced across the Isle of Man as neighbourhoods come together to produce their programs.
The six stamps remember familiar shows which have actually been staged in the Isle of Man over the years– The Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, Aladdin, Snow White, Dick Whittington and Robin Hood– reminding everybody of their own pantomime experiences.
The story of the custom is written by distinguished panto entertainer Christopher Biggins, a familiar face from stage and screen who is without doubt the ‘Grand Dame of British Theatre’. Alison Lodge, who is heavily involved in pantomime production in the Isle of Man, offers a Manx perspective.
The Christmas Pantomime stamp issue is readily available as a set and in sheet format, in mint condition or Cancelled to Order, as well as on a First Day Cover and as part of a Presentation Pack.
