We are delighted to announce the release of The African Elephant in Uncirculated Cupro Nickel as part of the stunning Big Five African Animals collection.
After recent success from the immensely popular Big Five series in Proof Silver, the breathtaking set has been re-released in Cupro Nickel. Issued on behalf of Sierra Leone, this coin in the series features the remarkable Elephant, the largest of all land mammals.
The Elephant can live up to 70 years in the wild and weigh around 12,000lbs, which is not suprising considering they spend spend up to 16 hours a day eating. These mammals are very calm as long as they are left alone, but will charge if they deem themselves threatened. Elephants are very sociable, using a wide range of sounds to talk to each other, some of which can be heard six miles away. They are perhaps best known for their amazing trunks, which contain 40,000 muscles alone and are used to identify the size, shape and temperature of the object it come into contact with.
The coin features the head of an Elephant styled as though it is an African mask. The special incused rim features an African pattern to continue the theme.
This coin can be purchased individually or as part of a set along with the other four animals of the Big Five.
