Few names are as synonymous with the Isle of Man TT as Joey Dunlop, and this exclusive pictorial sheet pays tribute to the Ulster racers extraordinary success around the TT Mountain Course with Honda motorcycles.
Dunlop won a staggering 26 TT races, as well as races all over the British Isles and beyond. His record on the Mountain Course remains unbeaten more than a dozen years after his final race, with only John McGuinness – who won his 20th TT race in 2013 – coming close.
Many of Dunlop's TT wins were taken on Hondas, including his last victories in 2000. Tragically, after defying critics he notched up another three wins around the twisting 37 ¾ miles of public roads in the Isle of Man, but was killed in a crash at a little-known road race meeting in Estonia. He was 48.
His exploits on the track and humble attitude off it – preferring not to live like the superstar he was, and working privately, but tirelessly for charity – made him a hero, and today he remains a legend.
